Mood

Mood: The atmospheric nature of the play is dark, cold and isolated in the interrogation scenes. In the reenactments of the short stories, they are free, colorful, and mysterious. It does influence the mood. Katurian’s short stories are a way of escaping what’s really happening. It’s a vehicle to a place where nothing goes wrong. As the short stories go on, this isn’t true. Even in what seems like harmful children stories, there can still be tragedy. In a way, it’s a message for unable to escape death. The mood of the production overall should be dark but somehow uplifting at the same time. Even though all of these horrible stories are being reenacted and violence is being portrayed on stage, I want the audience to feel that Katurian’s actions with killing his brother were out of love. I want the audience to remember the gruesome images but leave feeling that death can be beautiful.
